24.01.11 CC Mining Applications
Concrete Cloth’s cementitious fabric properties provides a new solution to Mines and Mining operation both above and below ground. It can be used as an alternative to poured or sprayed concrete or as a quick way of erecting strong permanent or temporary blast and vent structures. 21.01.11 CC Slope Stabilisation
In December 2010, ADIF, the Spanish authority responsible for railway infrastructure management, specified Concrete Cloth (CC) to be used as slope stabilisation to protect a railway station in Madrid. CC was chosen to address years of erosion and instability issues affecting the entrance of Alcobendas tunnel station. Erosion of the steep railway slope trenches had caused silting at the drainage pumps in the tunnel entrance. Shotcrete has long been the traditional solution, but presents several problems with installation and durability. CC8 was specified and 2500sqm of material was delivered on site in bulk rolls. Using a crane mounted with a spreader beam to position the CC, the project’s first phase of 800sqm in under 3 days. Click here to download the CC Slope Stabilisation Case Study PDF.
20.01.11 Curb Repair
Miller Capilano Highway Services were commissioned via our Canadian distributor, Nuna Innovations, to trial the use of Concrete Cloth (CC) to repair damaged curbs. The void in the curb was first filled and then lined with CC8. The CC was wrapped around the curb and fixed into position using standard concrete anchor screws before hydrating. Following the success of the trial, which was completed in under two hours, a number of other curb sites are being considered for refurbishment using CC. Click here to see the case study.
20.01.11 CC Pipeline Protection
Iberdrola, an international energy company, commissioned Doha Engineering Services Co. to provide protection for a 1200m shallow water pipeline carrying water and chlorine for their facility in Qatar. CC13 was specified to provide impact protection and negative buoyancy to the 6” diameter PVC pipe. CC can be hydrated using seawater, so the Cloth set underwater providing a durable and impact resistant protection. Click here to read the case study.

Concrete Cloth was trialled to inhibit weed growth beneath a set of steel seawall steps by the EA (Environment Agency UK) with great success. 18.11.10 M4 CC Ditch
Enterprisemouchel is the UK Highways Agency Managing Agent Contractor for Area 3 which includes the M4 motorway. As part of an ongoing programme Enterprisemouchel needed to clear and repair an interceptor drain adjacent to the M4, with a key project requirement to introduce a series of cascades in order to reduce the water flow rate. Originally a series of pipes and headwalls were considered but concerns over pipe blockages meant an alternative design was sought. Concrete Cloth (CC) provided a solution that prevented erosion, suppressed weed growth and eliminated the maintenance issues associated with blocked pipes. Click here to see the case study

29.10.10 Golborne Ditch Project
Network Rail contracted Murphy Group to clear and line an open drainage ditch that had been clogged by growth and was at risk of destabilising the railway embankment. Concrete Cloth (CC) was specified to line the cleared ditch to prevent further growth and to stabilise the bank. The access to the site was poor, across farm land and located within a copse on a steep bank that ran along a high speed rail line. The use of CC allowed Murphy group to line the 120m long ditch in just 1.5 days. Click here to see the case study.
23.10.10 Design Academy Eindhoven
Erasmus Scherjon, a design student studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven, used Concrete Cloth to create a two person outdoor bench as part of his 2010 graduation project. CC8 was draped around a steel frame and set underwater, creating a piece of furniture which exhibits the hardened properties of concrete, whilst retaining a soft, fabric like aesthetic. Concrete Cloth and its many applications in erosion control were showcased at the Fifth Ibero-American Congress of Erosion and Sediments Control (V CICES), which took place from 13th to 15th of October in Panama, Republic of Panama. 12.10.10 Future Skins Exhibition
Concrete Cloth featured as part of the Future skin exhibition at the Surface 2010 Fair in Den Bosch, The Netherlands. The exhibition took place 12-14 October 2010. A CCS25 and a range of CC applications were exhibited at this years Dutch Engineers Open Day in Vught, Holland. Similar to last year's show, the open day was attended by key technical and senior engineering staff as well as military representatives from the Belgian and Polish forces.
15.05.10 Larpool Viaduct
Ditch section installed for Network Rail at Larpool Viaduct near Whitby in North Yorkshire by CML Ltd. The installation was completed using 2 widths of CC8 Concrete Cloth, supplied in man-portable rolls and pinned at the bank using soil nails. The flexibility of the Cloth allowed the ditch to be easily integrated with culverts at each end.

10.03.10 Edale Ditch Project...
In February 2010, a section of the embankment along the high speed train line from Altringham to Chesterfield was at risk of destabilising due to surface water run-off from surrounding fields. Network Rail needed to resolve the issue quickly with minimum disruption of services and time on site for contractors. A further issue was the limited access due to the proximity of the train line and adjacent farmer’s field. Based on the success of previous ditching trials, Network Rail decided to utilise Concrete Cloth to upgrade and line an existing trench. Concrete Cloth minimised the time on site, saving cost and improving safety for personnel. Click here to download the case study.
03.02.10 Costain Ditch Project...
In 2009, Costain were appointed as the main contractor for the £90M Church Village Bypass scheme in South Wales. This involved major ground works including the installation of holding ponds and an extensive surface drainage network. The location and nature of the works required the sensitive use of appropriate construction materials to minimise the impact on the local environment. Concrete Cloth provided a means of rapidly installing a concrete ditch whilst maintaining the natural aesthetic of the overall scheme. Click here to download the case study.

10.12.09 AMCO Ditch Project...
In September 2009, a 140m section of ditch was lined using Concrete Cloth by AMCO, (Amalgamated Construction). The project was commissioned by Network Rail to provide drainage at the top of a railway embankment in Chipping Sodbury, Gloucestershire. This was the first time AMCO had used CC for ditch lining and the project was heralded as a major success. CC was significantly quicker and easier to install than conventional concrete slab construction, reducing the project cost and time on site. CCS structures are designed as part of a modular system; units can be easily docked together to create arrays of CCS to form larger structures specific to operational requirements. Concrete Canvas have deployed a new model CCS25 at the BEW (Battlefield Engineering Wing) training area in Gibraltar Barracks in Surrey. This was showcased at the Expeditionary/Humanitarian Operations Infrastructure (EHOISE) open day run by the UKTI which was attended by 70 Defence Attaches and UN personnel. The CCS25 will remain at the barracks and form part of the force protection training program.

Deployment of new model CCS25 and display of Concrete Canvas Sandbag reinforcement at the Dutch Army 'Business Day' held at Brederode Barracks in Holland. The 3 day event was attended by senior Royal Netherlands Army personnel and over 650 military engineers and civilian staff evaluating Force Protection Shelters.

Concrete Canvas are pleased to announce the launch of our new CCS25 units. These units feature several major improvements including the introduction of additional structural ribs which vastly improves the strength and loading characteristics of the shelters. Concrete Canvas has also made advances in our proprietary cement blend which has improved the strength of the base material as well as shortening setting times. The UK MoD has just awarded a contract to Concrete Canvas to supply 5500sqm of Concrete Cloth for use with sandbag defences. This was based on successful field trials on the front line in Afghanistan to evaluate its performance.

18.02.08 DEFEXPO India Exhibition...
Defence Export Services Organisation (DESO) which is part of the UK Ministry of Defence, recently exhibited Concrete Cloth at DEFEXPO, India 2008. The exhibition, which ran from 16th to the 19th of February was held in Pragati Maiden, India. Since it’s inception in 1997, it has since grown into one of the most internationally recognised defence exhibitions in the world.
20.12.07 British Army Concrete Cloth testing...
The British Army has begun using Concrete Cloth to upgrade frontline sandbag defences in Afghanistan. The Cloth has been proven to prevent the degradation of sandbags from incoming fire, outgoing muzzle flash and environmental exposure. Ballistic testing has been conducted up to .50” caliber . It is important to note that CC is not applied to provide additional ballistic protection, but instead to protect the integrity and prolong the effective life span of existing defences.

Concrete Canvas is to feature as part of the D&AD exhibition held at Urbis in Manchester. The exhibition runs from October 22nd through to February 2008. Concrete Canvas reached the final ten of it’s product category in the 2007 INDEX: AWARD. INDEX is the biggest design award of its kind in the world and is presented every two years in Copenhagen, Denmark. Concrete Canvas reached the final via an international jury consisting of leading designers, researchers, writers and thinkers from Europe, Asia and the U.S. This year’s theme, “Design to Improve Life”, differentiates INDEX from other design awards, as design is evaluated in a much broader sense than traditionally. It focuses not only on form, but also on the context of the design, ethical and cultural considerations, impact, number of people affected, sustainability and level of innovation. Concrete Canvas and the other final nominees were exhibited for six weeks in an array of large acrylic spheres in Kongens Nytorv square in central Copenhagen. These have since relocated to Korea, featuring in the 2007 Gwangju Design Biennale, where they will be exhibited from October 5 & November 3. Visit http://www.indexaward.dk for further information.

17.06.07 Concrete Canvas moves premises…
Concrete Canvas has moved premises from Northampton to a larger site in Pontypridd, Wales, where we are setting up the volume production facility to manufacture Concrete Cloth and Concrete Canvas Shelters. The new factory site is Unit 3, Block A22, located in the Treforest Industrial Estate, in Pontypridd, approximately 15 minutes outside Cardiff in Wales and 5 minutes off J32 of the M4. 24.05.07 Concrete Canvas wins prestigious D&AD award…
Concrete Canvas won a prestigious yellow pencil award for Outstanding Achievement in 3D Product Design at this year’s D&AD ceremony based in London. Over 25,000 designs were attracted to enter the competition. We received one of the 59 Yellow Pencils awarded for outstanding innovation.
